Sunshine Coast locals Jess and Suzi chose their favourite ‘happy place’ to celebrate their marriage, and travelled to Bali, where they were joined by family and friends as these two gorgeous women proclaimed their love for each other and said ‘I Do’.

Jess is the make up master behind Make Up and Brows by Jess, one of the Sunshine Coast’s most talented make up and beauty stylists, and we were so delighted to feature Jess and Suzi’s love story, and document the celebrations of their day. We wanted to feature their wedding for so many reasons, featuring a wedding professional’s wedding is a great way to see how people in the biz want their day to play out! Here at Lovers Like Us we also wanted to celebrate their first wedding anniversary with this special journal feature. Of course we are big advocates for same sex marriage, and we were humbled when Jess and Suzi agreed to share their day with us, and this one was a pretty special gathering.  You may think that as an experienced wedding professional planning a wedding would be super easy, but throw in a destination wedding overseas and language and communication challenges and most people, professional or not would be overwhelmed. Not Jess, who took control of the planning and co-ordination, and it seemed like a very natural thing for her to do, and with her one and only Suzi by her side, they created a wedding that reflected their love for Bali’s culture, featuring their favourite cuisine – Indonesian food, and their vision for a relaxed Villa celebration surrounded by their family and closest of friends was all they had always dreamt of.

Jess and Suzi wanted their ceremony and reception to be hosted in the one location. Frequent travellers to Bali, they had an acute understanding of how the traffic conditions can be a little hectic at times, and the convenience of having everything in the one location meant that their guests were able to enjoy the beautiful villa pre ceremony then the party that began straight after the official ceremony had concluded.
The concept behind their ceremony was to keep it ‘very personal’, warm and intimate. Both Jess and Suzi chose to have their mothers and children walk them down the aisle.
They also wanted their closest family and friends to play very important roles on the day, and as a wedding professional, Jess is very fortunate to have such talented friends in the biz, some of who travelled from Australia to celebrate with them in Bali and provided their wonderful services, including the DJ, videographer, photographer, celebrant, hair and makeup stylists.

Jess and Suzi personally wrote the entire ceremony words personally, including their vows to each other. As a nod to the local custom, they had small silver boxes on the benches that are used as a traditional Bali offering filled with rose petals for the guests to throw at the end of the ceremony as they walked back down the aisle as Mrs and Mrs!

The stying and details introduced into the celebration added a sophisticated tropical vibe to the space, The Villa was located in Seminyak, and according to Jess was so naturally beautiful and they just wanted to add a few simple touches to add colour and texture to the space to create an organic and tranquil area for their beautiful wedding venue.
Long bench style seats were chosen so friends and family could sit together in a more relaxed style, and after the garden ceremony had concluded the space was transformed into a casual style wedding reception. White blooms, tropical foliage and cute personal touches added their individual style to the beautiful space.
After the official ceremony concluded, they both wanted a change in tempo, and the DJ started playing funky Mexican beats, the frozen cocktails started flowing and they had a Mexican taco cart that wheeled in and started pumping out all you can eat tacos and street corn!

Jess and Suzi encouraged their guests to embrace the Bali life when choosing their wedding day attire – and both ladies loved that everyone wore casual, tropical style resort wear and the day was full of colour!

Happy Anniversary Jess and Suzi xx
